CHRONOS

(for Gil)

A path runs 'long the railroad track
On the other side are graves.
Time sees us all as equals -
We'll always be its slaves.
Chronos, couldn't you have spared
A precious year or two?
He was my friend, he was my teacher,
And time don't mean a thing to you.

In dreams I see him now
Moving toward the light
He has broken through
This veil of endless night
Satan stands there seathing
Over one who got away,
But Gil still calls him Brother -
Death, where's your mastery today?

Perhaps you'll reconsider
If I tell you about this man.
He was a Good Samaritan,
Always there with a helping hand.
I'm sure that you've heard many
Mournful tales of good men lost, oh but
I'd have followed this one
Down through Hell, at any cost.

In dreams I see him now
Moving toward the light
He has broken through
This veil of endless night
Satan stands there seathing
Over one who got away,
But Gil still calls him Brother -
Death, where's your mastery today?

I've always been a sailor, Gil
Just as you've always loved the earth,
So it's no less than fitting
That you should get there first.
I shall sail the seven seas, my friend,
The die were always cast,
Until Chronos comes to take me, too,
And we... meet again... at last.
