I don't want to own you,
Or to cage you up to keep.
Don't need to borrow from your image,
I don't need to make you weak.
Just want to stand beside you,
Have you be by me to share;
I don't need to hear "I love you"s,
I just need to know you care.
Day by day you show me what mere words could never prove.
There isn't any mountain that the two of us can't move.
This is not a love song, though I'm sure you know I do,
I wrote this down to thank you for the things that pull us through.
And if I could pick from anyone, my choice would be the same -
No one else has ever fought for me - it's that which made me tame!
I just had to let you know... I wanna thank you... for giving us
room to grow.
Trust comes all to seldom, faith is harder yet to find.
Giving in for something real... requires that both be kind.
You said "Love is never selfish" - Seems we both have learned
to give,
And, in wisdom far past both our years, we've found the courage to forgive!
